Eyemouth High School S3 Profile

Why am I being asked to complete an S3 Profile? You’ve come to the end of the Broad General Education Phase (S1 – S3) You are about to begin the Senior Phase (S4 – S6) Teachers will no longer be speaking about Es and Os You’ll be starting to think about whether you can start courses leading to National 4, 5 or Higher. You’ve reached a milestone moment in your education …

Who is this Profile for? The Profile is your opportunity to reflect upon your latest and GREATEST achievements This should help you think about the STRENGTHS you are bringing forward into the Senior Phase This should help you to be more CONFIDENT about yourself … … and to be more MOTIVATED about being successful in the future The S3 Profile is not for your parents (although they will read it). It’s not for your teachers … it’s not a report. It’s for YOU!

You have 4 parts to complete Student Statement: a short paragraph summing up your learning and achievements – you’ll also include some thoughts about your future. Curricular Areas: Here you write about what you have learned about, what you have learned to do (skills) and what you have enjoyed the most. Cross Curricular Themes: Here you write about how your various subjects have helped you to develop your literacy and numeracy skills as well as your awareness of a healthy lifestyle. Personal Achievements and Awards: Here you have a chance to list your wider achievement, eg ASDAN awards, sports achievements and so on.

Curricular Areas: examples I got an average of 88% in my Maths tests and I am hoping that will inspire me to achieve Higher grade in S5. Taking part in Drama has helped me to become more confident. I have developed in leading group discussions and developing improvisations. I really enjoyed studying “Our Day Out” in English. It helped me to understand how writers use characters. I also learned how to express my opinions in writing when I wrote about whether there should be more school trips. My confidence has grown in German. I can talk about myself in German and can take part in short conversations in groups. I add to my vocabulary every week. In Science I have learned many practical skills such as how to draw up a plan for an experiment. I have learned how to use scientific equipment such as Bunsen burners. I especially enjoyed learning how to make electrical circuits.

Cross Curricular Themes: examples In Modern Studies my writing improved when I learned how to put together a persuasive essay on whether or not Scotland should become independent. In Geography I used my literacy skills to explain and describe mountains. I had to use effective adjectives when describing mountains. I have become more confident in using media terminology such as ‘camera angle’, ‘audience’ and ‘close ups’ through studying film in English and Drama. I am good at working out things such as area in Maths and I am confident in my times tables. I have also had to use numeracy skills in History when I worked out how old things were and in English when I thought about how writers use statistics. I have enjoyed PE a lot this year and have covered sports such as football, rugby and gymnastics. I have learned about responsible drinking in PSE and in Home Economics we’ve been working on making healthy sandwiches. In PE this year I’ve been working on my sportsmanship and thinking about fair play. In RME I’ve been thinking about spiritual health and about how for some people religion helps their mental health.

Personal Achievements: examples I took part in a Maths Challenge in S2 and won a Bronze award. I am proud of the fact that I gained 47 Well Done postcards across S1 – S3. My reading has really improved in S3. I have read 13 books this year – the best I have ever achieved. I completed 7 Asdan Awards in S3 including golf, map reading skills and I edited an online newspaper. I took up running this year and I have lost a few pounds. My goal is to be able to take part in the Great Northern Run next year. I am proud of the fact that I am fitter and have set myself a sports goal. I competed in ‘Eyemouth’s Got Talent’ in S3. I passed the auditions but although I didn’t win one of the prizes I’m proud of the fact that I learned my words perfectly and performed well in front of an audience. I am an accomplished horse rider and have won fourteen rosettes.

Student Statement: an example I have become an independent learner and I am especially proud of the fact that I completed every piece of work I was asked to do. I am good at paying attention to detail and enjoy reading instructions and plans carefully so that I can do a good job. I am very good at working in teams and I can also work on my own. English, Maths, PE and Science have gone especially well for me and I’m hoping to take these subjects further in S4 and S5. My ambition is to get the qualifications I need to become a sports journalist. I have changed since I started High School. When I first came here I really didn’t understand Science as it was all new to me. When I look back over S1 – S3 I realise that I have learned a lot of Science and that I really enjoyed it. I’m planning to take two sciences in S4 and would like to get a job which involved using Science and numeracy. My favourite subjects are definitely PE and Art. I like PE because I like keeping fit and doing sports and I like Art because I like drawing and thinking about colour. I have enjoyed being a part of the school’s rugby team. When I’m not at school I’m addicted to my x-box as I’m highly competitive. I think I’d like to get a job which involved working outdoors.

Aiming at a high standard Do not change the font: it is set at Calibri to give a clean, professional looking document. Check your profile for simple mistakes such as capital letters on names, places, course subject names. Read each sentence – does it make sense? We want your S3 Profile to be something you’re proud of. Sometime in the future the information you put in your S3 Profile may remind you of things you have done which are useful for applications for courses and jobs.
