RodeoHouston horticulture photography contest “Wildlife” theme in horticulture category

Contest info The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo was founded in 1932 and has committed more than $430 million to scholarships, research and other educational youth programs Horticulture is the art of garden cultivation and management The HSLR horticulture competition invites Texas photographers ages 8 to 18 to submit images

Contest requirements This year’s theme is “wildlife” Photography entries are limited to subjects related to horticulture, flower arrangement, gardens and landscapes Photographs should not feature people Photographs must incorporate the theme (flora and/or fauna are acceptable) All photographs must include plant material but can can also include fauna (animals) Each entry must be titled; make your title CREATIVE so that the judges will remember you!

How you are judged Entries will be judged on a 100-point system Up to 30 points may be awarded for creativity Up to 25 points may be awarded for composition. Up to 20 points may be awarded for technical merit Up to 15 points may be awarded for distinction Up to 10 points may be awarded for interpretation of theme The judges will share your score sheet with you!

What you can win 1st place: $1000 (and a buckle) 2nd Place: $750 (and a trophy) 3rd Place: $500 (and a trophy) 4th Place: $250 5th through 10th Place: $100

Awards ceremony Awards will be given on Sunday, March 12 at 6:00 p.m. on the 2nd floor of NRG Center Buckles and trophies can be picked up here; if you win $$ it will be mailed to you once you submit a tax form Finalists will receive one exhibitor badge allowing them to access the Show Grounds on March 12 to attend the awards ceremony A parking pass and a ticket for an accompanying adult will also be provided You are encouraged to go to the awards ceremony!

assignment You will turn in one photo to be considered for the HSLR Horticulture photography contest, using the rules on slide 3 and considering the judging rubric on slide 4 Title your image [last name] [title of entry] and submit to Mrs. J by midnight on Tuesday, January 24 The top five entries from each class will be submitted to the HSLR contest. Those selected will earn a free 100 on a major grade assignment in addition to the grade earned for this assignment!
