What is a dentist? A person qualified to treat the diseases and conditions that affect the teeth and gums, especially the repair and extraction of teeth and the insertion of artificial ones. The things I would regularly do as a Dentist are Check-ups as they are a major part of the job and are important for patients keeping on top of their oral care. I will also have to do procedures that might include filling a tooth, performing a minor surgical procedure such as a tooth extraction, and cleaning and polishing teeth.

The salary ranges from to A YEAR Most dentist work in private practice or in a hospital The salary ranges from to A YEAR Averaging around 36 hours, working 5 days a week. Those in general practice work a 9 AM-5 PM job, but those working in a hospital have more irregular hours. A dentist works around 7-8 hours

My job won’t be automated as being a dentist requires performing tasks in a skillful manner. Dentist also tend to spend more time talking to their patients on a general social level compared to other doctors. Also, as a Dentist in general practice, doing business requires personal interaction and negotiation.

I am not quite ready for this career, but I will get there! Science: I’ve always had an interest in Science and as a young kid I knew I wanted to have a career involving science. Helping: At a young age, I remember kids coming to me whenever they sought help, it varied from knee scrapes to fallen bike chains, and I loved the feeling of helping people when they needed it most. Business: Whether it is marketing or accounting, business has always piqued my interest. My parents worked in banks and I often visited their offices, and I think it influenced my relationship with numbers.

Education: It will take me approximately eight years to become a Dentist. It takes a lot of diligence and passion to put myself through such a long journey, and I’m afraid that I might spread myself through thin in the future. Working with difficult patients: For Dentists it is uncommon for them to work with uncooperative patients and as a dentist it will be my job to assert those frightened. I’m just not looking forward to wrestling with a patient on a dental chair as I quickly look for ways to sedate them (I don’t think anyone does). Working hours: Dentists tend to work a 9-5 job, but it can be further extended due to various circumstances. In the future, I want to be able to go home and spend my time with family and friends.

Earn a Dental Degree (four years) 4. Obtain Licensure - Dentist must obtain licensure to practice 5. Consider a Specialization - i.e. Orthodontists, Oral and maxillofacial pathology, etc.
