I am Rita Lisovskaya. I’m fourteen I am Rita Lisovskaya. I’m fourteen. I’m a student of the seventh form of the secondary school № 1.

My Motherland

I was born and live in Udomlya. And I would like to tell about it I was born and live in Udomlya. And I would like to tell about it. Especially about the places which I like the best.

Udomlya means a sleepy (calm) lake, composed of some parts (from Finno-Ugric)

Udomlya is a small town. Its population is about 40 000.

Our town is situated in Tver region 225 kilometers from Tver, on the shores of two lakes Pes’vo and Udomlya.

It’s necessary to say our region is rich of lakes. They are about 80 It’s necessary to say our region is rich of lakes. They are about 80. That’s why Udomlya area is called “ the district of lakes”. I and my parents often spend our holydays and weekends in summer fishing, taking the sun and having fun there. Here is my favourite lake Kubycha. There is me with my father on the second picture.

Near the town the Kalinin Nuclar Power Plant (KNPP) was built at the end of 80s last century. This station is an enterprise forming a company town. My father works there. He is proud of his work and I’m proud of him. Thanks to the Kalinin Plant a lot of splendid buildings were built.

For example, the Cathedral of Grand Prince St For example, the Cathedral of Grand Prince St. Vladimir, Equal-to-the-Apls (on the left) – is a only church in Udomlya. The nearest church of John the Theologian (on the right) is situated at about six kilometers from the town.

The other building of the KNPP is a town public center “Chayka” The other building of the KNPP is a town public center “Chayka”. On the stage of it meetings, performances and concerts are performed. And exhibitions also take places there.

Few years ago a new cinema was opened in our town Few years ago a new cinema was opened in our town. It’s called Top-screen and situated in “Chayka”. I and my friends like to go to this cinema watching new Russian and foreign movies and cartoons.

Sociocultural field of my favourite town is quite wide Sociocultural field of my favourite town is quite wide. In 1977 the museum of regional studies was established, its unchallenged head is Chasovskich Galina Igorevna.

Inhabitants of our town often visit “the House of handicraft”, where instructors install classless on applied art, painting, modelling, fabrication dolls etc.

Sports field is presented by a sports health-improving center (called simply FOSK), a swimming pool and a children’s sports school. Pupils of this school often win the first places.

People of our town like to go in for sports very much People of our town like to go in for sports very much. Every summer most of them take part in triathlon “Superman”. In February we have “The Month of Health”. High and low, all participate in cross-country skiing.

I’d like to notice that our citizen like to celebrate festivals I’d like to notice that our citizen like to celebrate festivals. We all celebrate New Year, Victory Day, Maslentsa, town Day and so on.

Our people are friendly, openhearted, energetic, well-wishing, quiet and calm. I think it’s because of our nature. It is peaceful, unhurried and tranquil like lake surface.

It was not without reason our area attracted famous people such as painters Venetsyanov A. G., Levitan I. I., Bogdano-Belsky N.P., Byalynitsky-Birulya V. K. etc. A lot of masterpieces were created in Udomlya Region.

A writer Chekhov A. P. , musician Andreev V. V A writer Chekhov A. P., musician Andreev V.V. also were moved by our beautiful nature. They say that Chekov created his “The house with mezzanine” under the influence of it.

Near Udomlya Popov A. S., an inventor of radio, lived in his landed property with his family. My school was named after him because his wife and children taught there.

The another famous person of our town is a pilot-cosmonaut , Twice Hero of the Soviet Union, Makarov O. G. He was born in Udomlya and spent his childhood here. In the center of Udomlya the monument for Makarov was erected.
