Growing up, Pitbull was incluenced by the Miami bass genre of pop music. In high school, he focused his career on rapping. He says he chose the name Pitbull because “they bite to lock” and “are everything that I am.”

He co-founded the National Farm Workers Association.  He wanted to help the migrant farm workers that were working under bad conditions. He was successful in getting better conditions for the workers.
