The Healthy Schools Act: Timeline 2001: AB 2260 Right-to-know law, K-12 public schools, public child care centers 2006: AB 405 Prohibited certain pesticides at schools 2007: AB 2865 Added PRIVATE CHILD CARE CENTERS (except family day care homes) 2015: SB 1405 NEW • IPM plan, required IPM training, schools report pesticide use

HSA Requirements for Schools Starting January 1, 2015 Develop IPM plan and post on school district website Submit pesticide use reports to DPR (first due by Jan. 30, 2016) Starting July 1, 2016 Receive annual training in IPM & safe pesticide use around children
HSA Training Requirements for Schools Food and Agricultural Code 13186.5. (a) Commencing July 1, 2016 any person, including, but not necessarily limited to, a schoolsite or district employee, who in the course of his or her work, intends to apply a pesticides at a schoolsite subject to this article, shall annually complete a training course provided by the department or an agent authorized by the department.

We are too busy… so what? (Food and Agricultural code, section 12996) Any violation of any provision relating to pesticides may result in a misdemeanor with punishments by fine of not less than $500, up to $50,000 and imprisonment of up to one year in state prison or a combination of both fine and imprisonment.
