Does temperature affect sunflower seed germination? the izzys

9) Spray until damp every-other day or everyday as needed. Procedure 1) Spray water on three of the six paper towels until damp. 2) Arrange the sunflower seeds 1/2 inch apart on them (10 seeds on each) 3) Place the dry paper towels on top of each group of seeds. 4) Spray with water until damp. 5) Place each group of seeds in a plastic bag and place them in a box. 6) Label one as the control group and sit it on a table out of the way. 7) Label another as warm and place under a lamp. 8) Label the last as cold and place in the refrigerator. 9) Spray until damp every-other day or everyday as needed.

Materials - 30 sunflower seeds (raw) - 6 pieces of paper towel, folded in halves - water - spray bottle - 3 boxes - lamp - refrigerator - 3 plastic bags

Predictions     When we first started this experiment, we weren't sure what to do until we got the help of Dr. Emily. She advised us to use a lamp and a refrigerator.     There are 3 groups of seeds; Room temperature, under heat, and in a refrigerator.     When thinking about the ones in the refrigerator we didn't think anything would happen.     Under the heat, we thought they will germinate, but in room temperature we believed that they will germinate a whole lot faster.

Seeds In The Refrigerator     We check up on them everyday and spray them 6 times. After a while nothing was happening. When we would go check up on them again there would be almost a puddle of water inside the bag full of seeds so we stopped watering them hoping the water can dry up a little.

Seeds At Room Temperature     After a while we finally started to see them germinate. They eventually started sprouting and are up to 2 cm. The next day that we checked it, they sprouted an inch longer.     Our predictions for this turned out wrong they actually grew faster than the ones under the heat.

Seeds Under Heat     We have these seeds under a lamp in a dark place all day. A couple days after we saw the seeds at room temperature begin to germinate, we saw the seeds under the heat start to grow as well.     They got up to about 2.5 cm.
