Lord Honor in all things

Honor Conflict & honor (dishonor list) Matthew 13:53-58 - When Jesus had finished these parables, he moved on from there. Coming to his hometown, he began teaching the people in their synagogue, and they were amazed. “Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?” they asked.

Honor Matthew 13:53-58 – “Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Isn’t his mother’s name Mary, and aren’t his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? Aren’t all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?” And they took offense at him.

Honor Matthew 13:53-58 – But Jesus said to them, “Only in their own towns and in their own homes are prophets without honor.” And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.

Honor Point: To live in a rightly aligned relationship with Jesus we must honor him as Lord. They start well. They were amazed at Jesus’ teaching. He had wisdom. He spoke with a depth, and revelation like no other. They were impressed with his gifts – but this isn’t real honor. (people impressed with beauty, talent, ability…)

Honor What does it look like to honor God? First, we have to move past surface level amazement to true reverence. (amazed at the benefits, the gifts, the displays of power. Reverence – for who He is)

Honor Point: To live in a rightly aligned relationship with Jesus we must honor him as Lord. They took offense. They knew him, and his family. “Who do you think you are?” attitude. It is easy to ’honor’ someone we are impressed with, but not when we are offended. (work through offense)

Honor What does it look like to honor God? Second, to honor God we must work through our offenses. We must grieve our losses, embrace the mystery of God, realize there are things we will never understand, and surrender. Choose active trust. (offense – shields – anger, withdrawal, etc) (difference between talking & processing)

Honor Point: To live in a rightly aligned relationship with Jesus we must honor him as Lord. Their dishonor limits the activity of God in their life. “And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.” Dishonor leads to distrust. God honors those who honor Him.

Honor What does it look like to honor God? Third, to honor God we must follow Him in all things. When He says what we like, and when He doesn’t. When His desire is in alignment with ours, and when it isn’t. When we feel like it, and when we don’t. Anything less is dishonor.

Honor What does it look like to honor God? Third, to honor God we must follow Him in all things. (God asks us to do things we would rather not – forgive, give, serve, give up our rights, give up our time, yield our opinions to another…)

Honor Will you honor Jesus as Lord in your life? The people of his hometown didn’t and it limited the activity of God in their lives. Will you?
