Dame Zaha Hadid Architect,designer, immigrant, women’s inspiration. (Al Wakrah Stadium, Qatar and Sheikh Zayed Bridge, Abu Dhubi)

Zaha’s early life Zaha Mohammad Hadid was born 31st October 1950 in Baghdad, Iraq. Zaha grew up in an architecturally designed house which may have inspired her for her career in later life.

Zaha’s early life Zaha studied mathematics at the American University of Beirut before moving to study at the Architectural Association School of Architecture, in London. She worked for her former professors Koolhaas and Zenghelis in the Netherlands. Her talent was recognised and she soon became a partner!

Awards she has earned For the second year running, Zaha Hadid Architects have won the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) Stirling Prize; last year winning for her design for the MAXXI Museum of 21st Century Art in Rome (see picture). Italy’s first national museum of contemporary art and its first national museum of architecture It took place on Saturday 1st October at Magna Science Adventure Centre in Rotherham, South Yorkshire.

Most famous buildings This first building is called the Heydar Aliyer Centre Baku, in Azerbaijan The Serpintine Sackler Gallery, London, UK 2013.The latest building by Zaha Mohammad Hadid-a combination of refurbishment and new-build, set right in the heart of one of London’s major parks.

More famous buildings This building is in New York City and is the Condominium building. They started building it in 2012 and took three years to complete. This is the Changsha building in China. It is under construction now and will seat 1800 people. It is designed to look like petals.

Other design talents This is a prototype 128m‘super’ yacht designed for Blohm + Voss. These glass tables are from her ‘Water and Ice collection.
