Centrepoint Works Creation of formal training arm to provide additional options for residents and generate revenue for reinvestment into the charity; Based on acquisition of Astral Training in October 2015; Successful application to RoTO and RoATP; Addition of Housing programmes to core portfolio in 2017.

Centrepoint Works Traineeships – The Highlights……. More opportunity for CP residents to engage; Good progression and development for staff; Ability to convert strong corporate support into work placements – little risk for employers; Strong success rates from those retained.

Sticking with It ………….. Learner S Relationship breakdown, loss of flat, extreme anxiety Supported and motivated other learners – self-appointed Team Leader “When can I do some Maths and English”? Placement interview stage – increased withdrawal “I will do this”

Centrepoint Works Traineeships – The Lowlights……. Rigidity and length of programme mean some YP remain disengaged; If work placement unsuitable YP can be lost – and unable to have another go; Some employers still sceptical – programme needs to be ‘sold’.

Not this time……….. Learner J Overcrowding, asked to leave Keen to engage, good education levels Group sessions – withdrawn Re-engaged through adaptation of sessions Positively animated Wider CP team and employer involvement Disengaged

Youth Employment Initiative – Same Goal, Different Method Centrepoint is involved in a 28-strong partnership delivering YEI in the Tees Valley; Its programme is delivered to non-residents and works with a range of referral sources; The more informal, user-led approach is yielding some really positive results…

YEI ……….Learner K 18 year old female, care leaver Evicted from supported accommodation – substance and alcohol misuse Self-treating anxiety and depression Adapted working patterns to accommodate Confidence building tools, coping strategies Apprenticeship offered and commenced Sustaining tenancy

YEI………..Learner J J – 28 year old male, long term mental health, suicide attempts Extreme behaviours U-turn on initial plan Significantly adapted sessions Communication improved Interested and hopeful
