How to prepare? READ, UNDERSTAND AND REVISE texts (R,MK,extra material) slides (available on the web) do the exercises

Preparing a difficult text in Business English Read the text. Underline unknown words/expressions. Find their meaning (dictionary, note-book, slides, web sources,...). Make sure you understand the text paragraph by paragraph. Retell the main message of each paragraph IN YOUR OWN WORDS. Make sure you understand the whole text (the main ideas). Retell the main message of the whole text IN YOUR OWN WORDS. See which words/expressions in the text were important for each topic (see the slides or your notebook). Explain their meaning in simple English. Think what exercises could be expected in the test (for each text). REVISE!

Types of exercises (1) I SIMPLE VOCABULARY EXERCISES Fill in the missing words (blanks): e.g. business terms, prepositions, … Find synonyms/opposites for the following words/expressions: … Write down the following acronyms/abbreviations in full:… Explain the meaning of the following words/expressions: …

Types of exercises (2) II VOCABULARY IN CONTEXT Explain X. Use the following words. : … (WRITING A PARAGRAPH!) Compare X and Y (similarities & differences between X and Y, advantages & disadvantages of X and Y). Use the following words: .... (WRITING A PARAGRAPH!) Explain the meaning of the following sentence. Focus on the underlined words. e.g. Tax avoidance is possible due to a lot of loopholes in legislation.
