Oprah Winfrey Lauren Nizinski

Oprah Winfrey Television host, actress, producer, entrepreneur and philanthropist. In 1986 she launched The Oprah Winfrey Show which lasted until 2011. In the first year it gained an audience of 10 million people and grossed $125 million-Oprah received $30 million. She gained ownership from ABC of the program and then created her own new production company called Harpo Productions. After her show she launched the TV network OWN Forbes magazine called Oprah the richest African American of the 20th century. She was also the worlds only black billionaire for three years running. She was named the most influential woman of her generation by Time Magazine. She was the first black woman to become a multi-millionaire. She received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2013.

Oprah’s Angel Network A public charity that came about in 1998. The main focus of this charity was to encourage individuals to make a difference and inspire women and children to rise above hardships. This started as a campaign with her viewers. She wanted her audience to collect spare change to be used for scholarships for 150 people through the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. She also wanted viewers to volunteer their time for Habitat for Humanity. Oprah personally covered the administrative costs. Donations go to providing grants for charity projects.

Angel Network Projects Works with Free The Children to build over 60 schools in 12 countries. Giving children in rural areas the opportunity to get an education. 2005- The Angel Network donated more than $1 Million worth of school supplies and uniforms to 18,000 impoverished children in Africa. After Hurricane Katrina, The Angel Network helped to build and restore 300 homes. The Network built the Seven Fountains Primary School in South Africa in 2007 for more than 1,000 boys and girls.

More Projects O-Ambassadors: The Angel Network and Free the Children joined together in 2007 to inspire young children to become active citizens in the world. Using her book club, The Angel Network provides books for under resourced children in all places where a book club selection is set. Inspired by her magazine’s events, the Network gives grants to organizations that will provide life-altering help to girls and women. From 2000-2003 The Angel Network created a an award that was given to 54 organizations that made a difference in someone's life. This award was called the Use Your Life Award. The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa.
