Strategic Initiative Goals and Visions – FY17 September 2016 Area Initiative Future State Vision Strategic Objectives To Be Delivered (Blue deliverables related to service delivery) Launched Completed Teaching and Learning 1. Teaching and Learning Technologies (TLT) A set of faculty-friendly, student-­focused technologies that support teaching and learning across all Harvard schools, facilitate pedagogical innovation, and contribute to educational research. Provide core teaching and learning technologies to all Schools (Canvas) Support pedagogical innovation and research on learning via HarvardX and VPAL Establish strong Harvard TLT community based on actual partnerships with faculty and with academic support professionals Cultivate open source community around component development that complements core technologies iSites to be decommissioned (migrated 1500-2000 sites; eliminated 1000 sites); ~500 to be decommissioned School-based learning management systems to be decommissioned FY14 FY17 2. Big Data for Research (Infrastructure & IT Organization) A robust, scalable, and sustainable technology foundation and IT skills to ensure Harvard’s ability to handle and analyze Big Data sets across diverse disciplines. Establish a Harvard University Research Computing (HURC) function to formalize current informal collaborations Collaborate to deliver common technologies that will make research computing easy and seamless to faculty, whether they are in Cambridge, Allston or Longwood Develop a collective approach to recruiting, developing, and retaining highly skilled research computing staff Determine common approach to cloud, data retention, and data management for research Admin 5. Collaboration Tools Harvard students, faculty, and staff have access to an interoperable set of easy to use collaboration tools to communicate, share information & collaborate on school or work related activities with each other and with external parties from anywhere at any time.
