D.A.S.H. Daily Attention to Self-care Habits Goals: Cultivate a culture of wellness and self-care Make wellness habits accountable and accessible through peer support Facilitate lifelong habits of wellness and self-care in medical students Improve the overall well-being of Stritch students

Focus Areas NUTRITION FITNESS SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL STRESS MANAGEMENT

wellness areas ● Nutrition ● Fitness ● Social-Emotional Health healthy eating, cooking & recipes, nutrient function, etc. ● Fitness exercise, physical health, etc. ● Social-Emotional Health healthy relationships, spiritual health, dealing with emotions, etc. ● Stress Management prevention and relief, time management, sleep, etc.

How It Works ● Teams of 4 people ● Each person on team sets weekly wellness goals ● Team Leader checks in with team weekly Collect data on goals Provide encouragement and support Get DASH event & program feedback ● Team leaders report team progress to Alia & Tomas ● Prizes are awarded to teams on a monthly basis ● Monthly wellness programming Planned by both students and staff ● Opportunities to share wellness advice & inspiration

Team Leader Responsibilities ● Create team name with teammates ● Act as a liaison between your team and Student Life ● Collect data on team progress ● Report progress to Student Life monthly Use Team Leader Report form (Wufoo) ● Offer encouragement and support ● All info. found in Team Leader Packet

Wellness Goals ● Set weekly ● Related to one of the focus areas ● Use your own calendar/app to track your progress ● Report progress to team leader on a weekly basis

Goals should be…

Example WEEKLy goals ● Nutrition ● Social-Emotional ● Fitness Eat 5 servings produce daily Pack a 500 calorie lunch 5x a week Eat no more than 25g added sugar on weekdays Drink at least 64 oz. water each day ● Social-Emotional Journal for 10 min. daily Use gathering room for quiet reflection for 5 min. every day Devote 15 minutes to a creative activity every day Catch up with a different friend or family member every day ● Fitness Attend 2 one-hour fitness classes per week Run 10 miles per week Stretch for 15 minutes 5x a week Do 30 minutes of cardio 3x a week ● Stress Management Meditate for 2 minutes every day Plan daily activities at the beginning of each day Get 7 hours of sleep on weeknights Take at least one 10 minute study break per weekday

January DASH Events Monday, 1/23 – Self Defense Class (4 – 5 p.m. in Fitness Center) Wednesday, 1/25 – Dietician Presentation (12 – 1 p.m., room 345) Tuesday, 1/31 – Winter Warmup & Tea Bar (12 – 1 p.m. in Atrium)

Friday, 1/13 DASH sign-up close at 5 p.m. Tuesday, 1/17 Students will be advised of their DASH Groups Week of 1/17 Team leaders contact their teams to discuss team name, progress reporting, etc. (virtually or in person) Friday, 1/20 Complete DASH pre-assessment by 5 p.m. Week of 1/23 First week of goal-setting
