Presentation transcript:

Universal Salvation Universalism is a religious ideology that promotes the eventual salvation of every soul. Universalism is not necessarily a religious group but it is groups of people in many different religious groups.

Universal Salvation Many who believe in this universal salvation believe that all human beings are already reconciled to God even if they are unaware of it. 2 Cor. 5:19 – "God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them;"

Universal Salvation Additionally, the veil which obscures one's realization of what they have, salvation, is removed through faith in Jesus. 2 Cor. 4:4 – "the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them."

Universal Salvation Universalism teaches that all will be eventually saved and in the presence of God in heaven. Hell is not an eternal destination. Universalism holds that all will be reconciled to God and that the penalty for sin is not irrevocable.

Universal Salvation God will bring all people to repentance. Luke 16:19-31 – the rich man was evidently brought to realization and a type of repentance but was offered no hope Matt. 8:29-31 – the demons recognized who Jesus Universalism teaches that even the demons and Satan himself will eventually be reconciled to God.

Universal Salvation Matt. 25:41, 46 – when Jesus pronounced this fate for the devil, his angels, and those who will not be recognized by Jesus at the judgment He didn’t mean everlasting punishment

Universal Salvation It is a convenient doctrine to believe in. It offers hope to everyone whether they realize it or not. Universalism has many ideas that contradict simple and plain Bible teaching, so why bring it up?

Universal Salvation With the rise of the ecumenical movement in the US these groups have come together. They have different names but you look at their teachings and they are almost identical. They have brought a new meaning to universalism.

Universal Salvation At one point in time the Protestants groups did not believe that the other groups would be saved but that has changed.

Universal Salvation This change has become so pervasive that the Vatican stated, 2015, concerning Jews of today, “it does not in any way follow that the Jews are excluded from God’s salvation because they don’t believe in Jesus Christ as the Messiah of Israel and the Son of God.” The Vatican went on to explain this statement with, “that the Jews are participants in God’s salvation is theologically unquestionable, but how that can be possible without confessing Christ explicitly, is and remains an unfathomable divine mystery.”

Universal Salvation The Catholic group has even gone this far; For both those of the Jewish and Muslim faiths, this element of faith in Jesus Christ as the raised Son of God is decidedly lacking. However, the Roman Catholic Church has taken it upon themselves to boldly proclaim that faith in Jesus Christ is not required, one only needs to believe in the creator and have Abraham's faith. Vatican’s New Catechism

Is there a universal salvation? Yes. John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world…” Rom. 3:21-24 – righteousness is attained through faith in Jesus Christ 2 Peter 3:9 – God wants all to come to repentance Acts 17:31 – God commands man to repent Col. 1:9-21 – we are qualified by God through the blood of Jesus Christ that reconciles us to God Col. 2:11-14 – we are dead in trespasses but made alive with Him in baptism

Universal Salvation The salvation offered from God is open to all. Gal. 3:28 – Greek or Jew, slave or free, man or woman

Universal Salvation Salvation is universal to man. It is also determined by our obedience to the commands of God. Matt. 7:21-23 – we can’t make up our own religion and be accepted of Jesus Rom. 10:3 – we must submit to the righteousness of God
