Post 16 Opportunity Awareness Settle everyone down and introduce yourself and aims of session. – 5 minutes

What’s next after year 11 ? Explain the aims of the session.

How do you make decisions? Stick Your head in the sand and hope it works out? Follow the crowd? Explore how the pupils make decisions. – 1 minute For example did anyone choose a subject because their friends did? Do they think this is wise for a post 16 option? Gain as much information as possible and make an informed decision?

How do you make decisions? If you could only choose one of these, which one would it be? Activity 1 – 5 minutes When pupils have chosen their app, split into groups with a mixture of pupils who have chosen different apps.

Some possible reasons………? To follow celebrities Communicating with friends Use direct messaging See trending topics Photo and video upload Status updates Weighing up the pros and cons of each app will ensure you make an informed decision. Activity 1 – 5 minutes Get the pupils to explain to each other why they chose that app, why is this app important to them? Did they weigh up the pros and cons? Did any of them change their minds after listening to others? Explore why they changed minds. Give out flip chart paper and pens to the groups. If they had to choose one post 16 option which one would it be? Write down how would they choose? (favourite/ best subject, career interest etc) What information would they need? (college prospectus, talking to the careers adviser etc) How would they go about getting this information? Feedback information to the rest of the group. This exercise will demonstrate the knowledge they have now. Return to this at the end of the session to see if they can add anything to their flip chart.

Do you want to continue learning in a classroom setting ? OR learning but in a work setting ? Activity 1 – 5 minutes When pupils have chosen their app, split into groups with a mixture of pupils who have chosen different apps.
