ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING PROJECT CLUSTER MEETING Fundació CIM C/Llorens i Artigas, 12 Parc Tecnològic de Barcelona Barcelona, Spain ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING PROJECT CLUSTER MEETING Workshop & Lab equipped with Additive Mfg. Technology Sistemas Automotrices de México SISAMEX Gilberto Villarreal 2 May 2016

PROJECT DESCRIPTION Main goal is to establish a R&D Lab equipped with representative process capabilities implemented in the manufacturing facilities. Workshop capabilities are also considered to complete scope of the project: research plus shop floor support. In the research scope, need to add advanced manufacturing process. Additive Manufacturing technology comes as a priority to include in the project to support potential line peripherals solutions. As a complement, dual interaction with main sister companies in next level of integration to develop potential applications in tooling and mold applications using additive manufacturing technology.

Exploitable results (ERs) ER 1: Peripherals to production lines such as tooling, tools, fixtures. ER2: Fabrication of critical spare parts in main machines and processes. ER3: Investigation on impacts and adapting requirements with suppliers within our group (cast, forging and tooling sister companies).

ER 1: Peripherals to production lines Describe the type of result and the resulting innovation Example: Fabrication of induction coils adapted to each geometry configuration required (spindles, shafts, …), optimizing energy and final results. Avoid welding requirements which could cause failures. Potential customers Production lines requiring special toolings/fixtures. Customer Benefits   Increased durability Optimization Repeateability Energy savings

ER 1: Peripherals to production lines Technological Readiness Level   TRL 8 Milestones in the TRL progression up to TRL9   Procces and material confirmations. Validation in lab., prototypes. Main technical challenges in this result Material availability. Achieving good results due to part dimensions /sizes required. Time to market (Mth/yr):   2 - 3 years

ER 1: Peripherals to production lines IPRs Have you protected or will you protect this result before disclosing it? To be defined / third party.

ER 2: Fabrication of critical spare parts Describe the type of result and the resulting innovation Immediate attention and solution in low spare parts availability. Decreased training time of maintenance technicians to the new technologies/configurations. Potential customers Production lines Customer Benefits Continuous operation Interim stock availability Adaptation feasibility for in-house fabricated devices

ER 2: Fabrication of critical spare parts Technological Readiness Level   TRL 1 Milestones in the TRL progression up to TRL9  Technical feasibility Investigation of supplier design restrictions Main technical challenges in this result Different materials required Validation of scanning method when design not available Time to market (Mth/yr)  3 – 5 years

ER 2: Fabrication of critical spare parts IPRs Have you protected or will you protect this result before disclosing it? Not required

ER 3: Investigation on impacts and adapting requirements Describe the type of result and the resulting innovation As anchor company, lead investigation on opportunities and impacts with developing Additive Mfg. Solutions. Enable a process/infrastructure adaptation plan where neccesary. Potential customers Sister companies Strategic suppliers Customer Benefits R&D requirements on Additive Mfg. considered in road maps. Sinergy on projects with vertical integration scope.

ER 3: Investigation on impacts and adapting requirements Technological Readiness Level   TRL 1 Milestones in the TRL progression up to TRL9   Lab infrastructure feasibility Accreditation requirements Main technical challenges in this result Knowledge acquisition on Additive Mfg. Capex Time to market (Mth/yr) 3 – 5 years

ER 3: Investigation on impacts and adapting requirements IPRs Have you protected or will you protect this result before disclosing it? Not required.
