McNair Summer Learning Rachael Blanchard and Karen Harris

Outcomes: We will share strategies for keeping your students engaged in learning over the summer. We will explain the summer learning incentive program.

Summer Slide During the summer, when children don’t read, they tread water at best, or even fall behind. It’s what we call “Summer Slide”. Children who read build their skills steadily over the summer months.

Summer Learning Bingo Board

Summer Learning Bingo Board

How to Play Summer Learning Bingo Have your child complete each activity on the reading and math bingo boards. Parents should initial each activity as it is completed. Students should bring the completed Bingo Boards back to school at the beginning of the year. Students who return their fully completed bingo boards back to school by September 7th will receive a new book and be invited to a pizza party! Students may log on to http://www.fcps.edu/is/book/ to learn how to win additional prizes from FCPS.

Other Information Bingo boards and some summer reading tips will be sent home with your child’s report card on the last day of school. We will post a link to the bingo boards on the McNair website should you need to print a new one during the summer. The McNair office will also have copies of the boards. We will be sharing information about McNair Summer Learning with all students during the last week of school.
