Philosophy The Business and Enterprise curriculum should be for all pupils We actively seek to gain qualifications which would have a work application Our courses help our pupils to be work ready and understand why they study other subject areas All staff are volunteers The scheme should be viewed as a 5 term plan All students complete one 2.5 term course and five 6 week courses Pupils choose a course which offers new skills – for instance IT students should not choose to build a website or desk top publishing Pupils make choices based on what will be of interest and useful in the future
How? KS4 pupils Every week 1 Hour sessions Final lesson to enable some groups to go out of school

So far . . We have developed exceptional links with Scottish Power Pupils have redesigned the Café Pupils have opened a CLC in the school Pupils have redesigned the flyers for the hotel They have had the experience of working with the Sorrell Foundation at the V&A museum They have established a Fair Trade Company and been invited to speak about their activities at many other schools. They have entertained a representative from the Oromia Coffee Farmers Co-operative Union and gained Fair Trade Status for the school – the first in the North West We have been interviewed by Radio Merseyside and Radio 4 Recognised by DFES as good practice ROQA Award Several of the WRL courses have translated into full options – Money Management CRE8 shop opened Oct 2006
Pupil Voice In our first audit the pupils described the courses as: Fun, Good, Exciting, Interesting, Different, Useful Other comments included: ‘It helped with my CV’ ‘We had a choice’ ‘I know what’s expected of me when I leave school’ ‘Gives me a better chance of getting a job’ ‘I know how to learn’ ‘I’ve learnt loads particularly about money’ ‘If you want to do well – do the courses’ ‘You get a good understanding of many activities’
