Presentation transcript:

Preventing Pallet Racking Systems From Collapsing Pallet racking systems play a crucial role in warehouses and storage facilities. They allow items to be stored and stacked upon each other in an organized way. Items can be loaded and taken off easily from pallet racking systems.

Preventing Pallet Racking Systems From Collapsing A nightmare for any business owner, store manager or warehouse operator is the collapse of the pallet racking systems in their facility or store. We discuss how you can prevent a pallet racking system collapse from occurring at your facility below.

Frequent Rack Inspections Having your racks professionally inspected frequently is one of the best measure you can take to prevent a collapse from occurring. A rack collapse usually doesn't happen all of a sudden. It is often the result of years of damage, wear and broken parts. Having your pallet racking systems inspected periodically will allow you to spot serious problems and address them before they turn into a serious hazard.

Employee Education Educating your employees on how to properly use equipment such as forklifts will go a long way to preventing accidents in the workplace. The more educated your employees are about the equipment they are using and its limitations the less likely they will be to be involved in an accident. Teach warehouse employees about the signs of broken and damaged pallet racking systems. Tell employees that they should report any signs of damage or collisions with pallet racking systems right away. Make safety a priority in the workplace. Post information about pallet rack system safety and equipment in a highly visible place

Practice Safe and Proper Pallet Storage and Loading Techniques Don't overload racks. Remember, that racks were designed to handle a certain amount of weight. Going over that weight, may cause a collapse. Spread the weight of a load evenly throughout the rack system. Don't place pallets on only side of a rack system and leave the other side empty. Spread the weight around whenever possible. Always store heavier items on the bottom or lower bays when possible. This will make moving and accessing them easier as well.

Practice Safe and Proper Pallet Storage and Loading Techniques Make sure there is enough clearance between pallets. Too little clearance between pallets will make it difficult to move the pallets with a forklift later on and increase the likelihood of support beams being damaged. Keep aisles clear so that employees have easy access to the pallet rack systems. Finally, protect rack systems by installing rack guards and post protectors. This way if a collision occurs, the amount of damage to the racks will be limited.
