Why read with your child?

Why read at home? Research shows that when children read with an adult at home, children find learning to read easier and usually become better readers. As parents you are your child's most influential teacher with an important part to play in helping your child to learn to read. Parent Wshop

When and How to share a book

When? Set aside a special time each day Share books when you and your child are in a relaxed mood. Ten minutes a day is enough Parent Wshop

How to share a book Hold the book so that your child can see the pages clearly Ask your child to point out things they know in the pictures…chat about the story Repeat common words together Make the stories interesting by using expression, voices and changes in pace. Re Read your child’s favourite books Parent Wshop
