The ACEA platooning roadmap is under development 2016 2020 European Truck Platooning Challenge Multi-brand platooning (EU H2020-funded research project) Incentives for market uptake Amendment to Vienna Convention Other market incentives e.g. toll/tax reduction Review and harmonisation at EU level of traffic laws for implementation (starting with exemption procedures for platoons) Regulation European testing Declaration of Amsterdam Revision of applicable UN-ECE regulation Technology progress is not the only driver for platooning. Also legal progress must be supported.

European initiatives Platooning trial (UK) Tendering process still ongoing All tenders received with strong tenderers Expected to close the tendering process by early December 2016 Sweden: national funded project with Scania and Volvo – pre-project to H2020 ART03 on multi-brand platooning. Norway-Finland: CEF 2017 proposal on platoon operations to complement the Swedish tests (to be submitted in February). Commission’s workshop on member states automation tests, on 16 December in Brussels (TBC). ITF project on “managing the transition to driverless road freight transport”. Will be presented in Leipzig 31 may-2 June Day 1 session 16:45-18:00: The right regulation for automated and autonomous driving (includes labour issues).

Next steps Delegation of real life cases will visit the OEM’s HQ. Each OEM will evaluate the proposal individually. All OEM’s have shown interest in the Multibrand platooning call.
