PURPOSE of the Program Pope Pius XII Award Ad Altare Dei Award Help Catholic Scouts of the Roman Rite develop a fuller Christian way of life within the faith community Program is organized in chapters based on the seven Sacraments which are a primary means toward spiritual growth Help Catholic Scouts and Venturers develop a fuller Christian way of life within the faith community The program deals with different life choices (single, married, religious, ordained), occupations and ministries in the church as calls from God. It includes youth led discussions on current issues facing the church and society, which are normally included as part of a Pius XII retreat or day of recollection

PROGRAM Requirements Pope Pius XII Award Ad Altare Dei Award Ideal group size is 4-12, but may be run with smaller groups The program should be run by the candidates themselves, the adult serves as a facilitator A number of interviews and an investigation of a controversial issues facing the church or society are integral to the program All sections must be completed and signed off A retreat experience, ideally centered on the Pius XII program itself and a ministries service project (Chapter 5) are required Successfully complete PP XII Board of Review Pope Pius XII BOR is made up of former Pope Pius XII recipients with adult leaders acting in an advisory and supervisory capacity It is suggested that the group meet for 9-12 sessions. As the youth are older, 2 hour sessions seem to work well, and flexibility is often required in scheduling sessions and interview feedback’s. No changes permitted Additional requirements may not be added Group should be run using the Patrol Method Use of a Catholic Bible is required St. Joseph version of New American Bible used in program preparation Scout should be advancing in Scouting (not mandatory) Regular participation in Sunday worship Involved in formal religious education program All sections must be completed and signed off Attend annual Catholic Scout Retreat Weekend (last weekend in April) Successfully complete AAD Board of Review Program designed to be completed in 6-8 months [start beginning of school year] No changes permitted Additional requirements may not be added
