What is the PSAT/NMSQT? The Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT)

Get to Know the PSAT/NMSQT® The PSAT/NMSQT® is highly relevant to your future success because it focuses on the skills and knowledge at the heart of education. It measures: What you learn in high school What you need to succeed in college The PSAT/NMSQT measures reading, writing and language, and math skills developed over many years, both in and out of school. The PSAT/NMSQT does not ask for facts from literature, history, or science, or recall of math formulas, because it measures your reasoning and critical thinking skills. You don’t have to discover secret tricks or cram the night before. There is no penalty for guessing. The test length is 2 hours, 45 minutes 6

Student Search Service® Participate voluntarily Connect with more than 1,200 colleges, universities, scholarship programs, and educational organizations Sign up when you take the test: Choose to participate in Student Search Service when registering for a College Board test (fill in the circle on the answer sheet). Provide information about yourself on your answer sheet. Participating organizations can then search for groups of students who may be a good fit. FYI: The College Board never shares information on disabilities, parental education, self- reported parental income, Social Security numbers, phone numbers, or actual test scores through Student Search Service. 9

What is the test fee? The fee for the 2016 PSAT/NMSQT is $15. Schools sometimes charge an additional fee to cover administrative costs. The College Board makes fee waivers available for juniors from low- income families who meet our income guidelines.

Graduation Honors Valedictorians are students who earn a cumulative weighted grade point average of 4.0 or above, for the first 7 semesters. Salutatorians are students who earn a cumulative weighted grade point average of 3.90-3.99, for the first 7 semesters.

Graduation honors California Scholarship Federation (CSF) Life members will wear their gold cords at the graduation ceremony. Life membership is attained by qualifying for, and enrolling in, CSF 4 out of 6 semesters.

Graduation honors Students having an overall weighted grade point average of 3.5 or above for the first 7 semesters will receive a green and white cord to wear at graduation.

Academic Letters and Chevrons Honors Letter: Fulltime students who have a weighted grade point average of 3.5 to 4.0 or above are eligible for this letter.

Academic Recognition Gold Chevron: Fulltime students who have already received their Honors Letter and have earned a weighted grade point average of 4.0 or above are eligible for this chevron.

Academic Recognitions White Chevron: Fulltime students who have already received their Honors Letter and have earned a weighted GPA of 3.5 to 3.99 are eligible for this chevron.

CSF The California Scholarship Federation recognizes outstanding performance in academics and encourages service towards the school and community. Why join CSF? If you qualify for life membership as a senior, you are recognized during the graduation with a Gold cord, and you get special recognition on the diploma as a C.S.F. life member. Membership is open to sophomores who qualify!!! Eligibility for membership is verified each semester. A student must meet the requirements for membership each semester.

Pirate Pillar A Pirate Pillar is a senior who is outstanding in academic achievement, has a positive attitude, participates in school activities, and contributes to Reedley High School as well as his/her community. A Pirate Pillar is defined as a student who sets goals and reaches these goals through continuous effort. The Pirate Pillars consist of ten students from the current graduating class. These ten students are selected by the Pirate Pillar Committee and chosen for their fine qualities. You must submit: A copy of your transcripts ( Please highlight any AP, Honors and E courses) Pirate Pillar Teacher/Advisor/Coach Signature Form Will have an Interview
