2013-2018 Vision CCCECE will: Serve as an active stakeholder when decisions are made about ECE workforce development. Be the primary ECE teacher preparation/workforce development body. Partner actively with other organizations and maintain our unique focus and role of representing community colleges. Help shape and track ECE policy development. Serve as a resource to child development/early childhood education departments throughout the state.

News from the Chancellor’s Office 113 Community Colleges in state 98 have AS for Transfer in ECE plus 2 more in development 1 has AS for Transfer in Child and Adolescent Development plus 2 more in development 8 colleges have no ECE program

SOC Code Revisions http://www.bls.gov/soc/2018/soc_responses.htm Currently in revision timeframe Waiting for a conference call date – March? 2018 edits of SOC codes:http://www.bls.gov/soc/2018/soc_2018_definitions_changes_tracked.pdf: See proposed edits: p. 4: Appears early education directors are separated from “prekindergarten” p. 45-46: preschool is replaced with “prekindergarten”. Will this include 0-5 educators? Or does this only include TK teachers? p. 84: definition of “child care” as basic care (response provided to a concern in definition docket 1-0125 – “workers who care for children perform duties that are distinct from workers who teach children, it is appropriate to maintain the separation between childcare and education”)

CAP Update 97 / 103 colleges have aligned to CAP Classic 49 colleges have aligned one or more CAP Expansion courses (I/T, SpEd, Admin) 11 colleges have indicated intent to align with CAP TK – 4 colleges have submitted courses for review Upcoming review dates CAP Classic/Expansion Mar 31 CAP TK June 2 Contact the CAP team for assistance

News from the State Commission on Teacher Credentialing Child Development Permit Revision Update Kate Williams-Browne/Ex-Officio Representative of the California Community College How will the permit change? (Probably 2 years out) Associate Teacher (Assisting) Continual renewal / can supervise children but not other adults Teacher (Teaching) AA/AS in CD/ECE Teaching Specialist (Mentoring) BA in CD/ECE Program Administrator (Administrating) BA or higher with 12 units of administration CTC still working on……… Teacher Performance Expectations – competency based Program Standards = Colleges would need to show they meet teacher preparation standards down the road. Adopting clinical practice – 210 hours proposed All above are RECOMMENDATIONS from taskforce, with input from field. Final decision not yet made
