Training is good for business Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference 2016 11/4/2017 8:44 PM Training is good for business Sustaining and growing a cloud business requires investment in skill development, and according to research conducted by IDC and Microsoft, our best partners are doing just that. Some of the best practices used by partners include Use standardized tests, such as exams, to test aptitude in new, often junior, hires to place them in the right role and set them up for success Have structure and invest in skill development to keep their experienced employees sharp on latest technologies Avoid being overly reliant on ‘superhero’ staff by building and maintain deep knowledge depth across the organization This concept of aligning the right resources to the right task is an important one. Much like a coach assigning players to positions in the field, it’s important to understand the strengths, weaknesses, capabilities, and passions of your staff.   One key learning we gained through our research is that not every new hire needs to walk through the door fully formed. In many cases, it’s better to train them on your own processes and methods as a blank slate they to try and break them of old ways. This is especially true when you’re going through transformation such as the move from a traditional on-prem business model to the cloud Don’t be overly dependent on superhero delivery staff I always tell partners to beware of the superhero delivery staff. I often see partners use a single resource to deliver numerous types of technology and do things that require high levels of specialization, while at the same time having that resource execute mundane tasks. The problem with this is partners become dependent on these “super hero consultants,” when in fact a less expensive resource could be delivering some of those simple items, allowing more senior individuals to grow by focusing on delivery of complex tasks, leading teams, and mentoring others. Use this opportunity to assign the right individual to the right task, and bring in new, less expensive staff to learn and grow. This will not only help grow your margins, but the newer staff will also eventually become a more skilled resource as things evolve. Have structure and invest in skill development In order to be successful in a hyper-efficient practice and to deliver with more junior resources, you need structure. First, you need a way to predict and identify potential. We’ve learned that some of our top partners are now using aptitude tests as part of their interview process – in some cases this includes how they would have solved real life issues the partner has seen on recent projects While it seems simple, so many of us don’t take the time to ensure adequate readiness is in place. We hire a new resource and immediately throw them to the wolves. Or we purposely only hire highly experienced talent so they can be immediately billable. If you don’t have a training program intended to onboard staff deeply – build one today – it’s the first step toward increasing gross services margins. On top of that, the partners we talked to with these capabilities said that both employee retention and satisfaction have improved when implementing a positive onboarding experience. How to Associate a Partner Individual to MPN ID Summary This article provides clarification on how to create a Microsoft account (formally Live ID) and associate it to the Company’s MPN Membership. In this article you will also find an information on how to log in to Authorized Device Reseller (ADR) Portal. More information In order to access Authorized Device Reseller (ADR) Portal you need to create a Microsoft account and associate it to the Company’s MPN Membership. Follow below steps to create Microsoft account (formally Live ID) Go to https://signup.live.com/signup.aspx to sign up Fill out the form TIP For User Name, the best option is to use your company e-mail address. Click on Create Account You will receive an e-mail confirmation to the email you have created the Live ID account with. Once you have created the Live ID account, associate it to the Company’s MPN Membership. To do it follow below steps: Go to https://partners.microsoft.com Sign in using a Microsoft Account (formerly Windows Live ID) Click Associate as an Individual Type your organization's name and location, domain address or Microsoft Partner Network ID Click Find My Organization. ATTENTION If there is more than one option, please check with your PSE for which MPN account to use: Select your organization's name Click Associate to this Organization Type your company account email address and your name Click Finish Your request to enroll will now be sent to your organization's administrator for the Microsoft Partner Network. Once your organization's administrator has approved your enrollment, you will have access to resources and information reserved for Microsoft partners.
