FOOD TECHNOLOGY WALT- Complete a time planning sheet for next practical lesson, and be able to understand why it is important. Understand how to make vegetable samosa’s, through the active observation of a demonstration. WILF Listening skills, extended answers to questionning, understanding the function of ingredients, and complete specific worksheets to develop your understanding of Indian foods.

Samosas FOOD TECHNOLOGY Vegetable Samosa’s Ingredients: 100g carrots cut up into small cubes 100g potatoes cut up into small cubes 1 tbsp oil 1 medium onion chopped 1 garlic clove chopped finely 2 tbsp curry powder 2 tbsp mango chutney ( optional) 100g frozen peas 225g filo pastry 1 egg Method: - include times ,quality,hygiene andsafety points in your plan. Bring a pan of water to the boil and add carrots and potatoes. Simmer for about 5 minutes Heat the olive oil in a frying pan and add the onion and garlic and fry for 5 minutes Add the curry powder and mango chutney and stir well Drain the carrots and potatoes and add to the frying pan and fry for 2 minutes Beat egg into a bowl Roll out the filo pastry and cut out circles using a small plate Place filling at one end and fold diagonally. Brush the remaining filo with egg and keep folding into a triangle shape. Place on a greased tray Glaze with egg and bake for 10 minutes.

FOOD TECHNOLOGY You have watched the demonstration now you need to complete a time plan showing the main stages of production. Remember your hygiene rules Think about the critical stages in the making of samosa’s (this means that the dish would be ruined if a particular process was not carried out properly) or the vegetables were not chopped into very small pieces. You need to put times against each step, think realistically how long it will take you to carry out each step and the hygiene and safety points These are called Quality Control Points and Quality Assurance. What does a Critical Control Point mean?
