Guide Wire Torque Device for Vascular Intervention Cody Fannin, Morgan Lennon, James Oosten, Samik Patel, Andrew Sassani, and Eric Zhang Advisors: Dr. Rabih Chaer and Dr. Jason Wagner Addressing the Problem Previous Design The Current Design The Current Design During vascular surgery, a wire is navigated through veins to a point of interest and is used as the access port for surgical tools. This wire is manually guided into position by a small device that allows the surgeon to direct the wire within the patient’s vascular network. Current guide wire torque devices must travel the entire length of the wire several times throughout a procedure. This increases the risk of accidental movement of the wire, which can increase operation times and chances of patient injury. Reduces cost, supplies, and chance of accidental injuries. Compatible with all standard guide wires making it less likely to reach the end of shelf life​ Injection-moldable design makes prototype cheap, easy, and sustainable for manufacturing. Design Objectives Ability to clip device on/off wire without threading through the wire’s distal end Single-handed maneuverability Easy translation of device up and down the wire One device compatible for wire sizes: 0.014”, 0.018”, 0.035” Future Goals Finalize design details with physicians Apply for intellectual property rights
