Mission ‘to promote the veterinary profession within the Commonwealth by encouraging the highest professional standards of education, ethics and service, in order to advance animal health, productivity and welfare to improve the quality of life of all its peoples’.
CVA Work Priorities Continuing professional development On-line CPD modules – collaboration with World Veterinary Association and the World Continuing Education Alliance Donated veterinary texts program Donated equipment/instruments Study fund - short study program in another country Guest lectureships Training programs, workshops, conferences Journal of the CVA 1986 to 2015 – chance for young vets to publish.
Donated books and equipment For many years, the CVA has run a voluntary book program donated veterinary texts and journals are collected, recorded and posted to individual veterinarians and various universities in member countries in Asia, Africa, Oceania and The Caribbean Also an x-ray machine has been sent to Fiji and Sokoine University in Tanzania an anaesthetic machine has been sent to the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka veterinary equipment to Samoa and Cook Islands surgical instruments to The Gambia.

On-line CPD Working with the WCEA and WVA, the CVA education portal has had 7779 members register from 166 different countries with Egypt, the United States of America, United Kingdom, Egypt, India and Australia having the largest membership. There are 1197 different CPD modules currently available and members have commenced modules on 5863 occasions of which 2322 reached completion. Free for vets from developing countries!

Planning for the next 50 years CVA is working to improve communications (new website, monthly e-newsletters, new regional communications officers / young vets, social media).
