Non-profit non-governmental organizations Are funded by the state to support the integration of immigrants in the Czech Republic. Services are provided FREE OF CHARGE or for symbolic fees Professional social and legal consulting Social consulting:housing, employment, entrepreneurship, medical care, health insurance, education, social services, etc. Legal consulting:assistance with residence issues Help with filling in forms, assistance in dealing with authorities, doctors, schools, employers and landlords. Interpreting for service users at different authorities, schools and other institutions, either in person, or via telephone, with the aim of promoting the users’ independence and overcoming communication barriers Czech language courses, cultural and free time activities, socio-cultural lectures, etc.

RESIDENCE IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC BASIC TERMS Third country national: = a citizen of a country that is not an EU member state and is not a citizen of Island, Lichetnstein, Norway and Switzerland. EU citizens: Are not required to apply for a temporary residence permit If they want to stay in the Czech Republic for more than 30 days, they have to notify the Foreign Police (including any changes)

STAYS of over 90 days in the Czech Republic long-term stay > 90 1) Long-term visa = visa for a stay of over 90 days - the maximum validity is 1 year. 2) Long-term residence permit = residence permit in the Czech Republic - issued for a maximum of 2 years. Note the difference between a long-term visa and a long-term residence permit! „D/VR“ 7

RESIDENCE IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC biometrics Biometric data = face recognition and fingerprints Biometric card ANO: For third-country nationals residing in the Czech Republic under a long-term permit or permanent residence permit, NOT under a visa Paid for in the form of a duty stamp. The duty stamp is purchased at post offices. 8

STAYS of over 90 days in the Czech Republic purpose of stay conducting business, study, research, family reunification, employee and blue card, other... The purpose of the stay has be be observed throughout the entire stay. Several purposes may in fact concur The purpose of the stay may not be changed when a long-term visa is changed to long-term residence.

RESIDENCE IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC study I (code 23, 24). The applicant has to be a student throughout the entire period = to comply with the purpose of his/her stay! Certificate of student status – for the entire period until the end of studies Leaving the country during studies You can leave the country (e.e. during summer break). If you have a pending residence application at that time, you have to be proactive! Foreigners are allowed to work and conduct business when studying. But they have to observe the main purpose of their stay = studying.

RESIDENCE IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC study II Change of school: The study programmes have to follow one after another The original school will report to the Ministry of the Interior that you ended your studies and it is your obligation to notify them of any change and follow-up (new) studies! Changing the purpose of stay in practice Exclusion from school: The school will inform the Ministry of the Interior and your visa or residence permit may be cancelled! Report any changes to an office of the Ministry of the Interior within 3 days! Report any change of address (e.g. dormitory) within 30 days!

RESIDENCE IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC DEADLINES EXTENDING VISA FOR A STAY OF OVER 90 DAYS no sooner than 90 and no later than 14 days before visa expiration application for the extension of a long-term visa for a stay of over 90 days 13

RESIDENCE IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC short-term Schengen visa ≤90 Application Application for a short-term (Schengen) visa at an embassy of the Czech Republic validity and number of entries different purposes (the most frequent is invitation...) the invitation to visit will be verified by the Foreign Police the general deadline is 15 (or 30, exceptionally 60) days Different conditions apply to different countries of origin! 16

RESIDENCE IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC family members spouses, children of the permit holder (dependant children of both under and of full legal age), parents (older than 65 or if they cannot take care of themselves for health reasons) you can chose between a long-term visa and a long-term residence permit (dis/advantages) if the permit/visa holder stays for 15 months or 6 months (if he or she has an employee card)

RESIDENCE IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC FAMILY MEMBERS – ARRIVAL Application for long-term visa for family purposes. Deadline of 90 to 120 days. The maximum visa length is 1 year. Upon arrival to the Czech Republic, the foreigner may ask for long-term residence for the purpose of family reunification.

RESIDENCE IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC FAMILY MEMBERS – ARRIVAL Application for long-term residence permit for the purpose of family reunification Family members may apply at an embassy only after you have been in the Czech Republic for 15 months. The deadline is 270 days. Residence permit is issued for a maximum of 2 year.

Permanent residence = EC resident (The Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic: the Department of Asylum and Migration Policy, „OAMP“) after 5 years of uninterrupted stay in the Czech Republic (one one half of the length of your studies will be accounted for) the knowledge of the Czech language at the A1 level is required the highest residence status – as a citizen option to settle down in another EU member state

RESIDENCE IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC the right to travel in the EU and the Schengen Area A foreigner with a long-term visa or a long-term residence permit is entitled to travel in the Schengen Area. Travelling is possible with a passport + visa or a biometric ID. You can travel to other Schengen countries and spend there up to 3 months over any period of 6 months. As far as EU countries that are not part of the Schengen Area, you may need a travel visa. (applies also to airport transit areas)

RESIDENCE IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC SCHENGEN AREA The CR is part of the Schengen Area The Schengen Area = a joint area of countries where border checks of persons are not performed at the joint borders. The Schengen Area includes: Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Island, Italy, Lichtenstein, Lithuania, Latvia, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Austria, Greece, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. Other EU or EEA member states , i.e. Bulgaria, Ireland, Cyprus, Lichtenstein, Rumania and Great Britain, are not members of the Schengen Area. 22

RESIDENCE IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC MAIN OBLIGATIONS Report your presence in the country within 3 days. Observe the purpose of your stay throughout the entire stay. Report any changes within 3 business days! (surname, marital status, changes to passport information and residence permit card) Place your name on your mailbox and doorbell, legal fiction of delivery after 10 days Obligation to report any change to your address in the Czech Republic within 30 days. Biometrics – provide biometric data for your residence permit card. Present your passport, residence permit card, health insurance card/document + a reciept of health insurance payment during a residence check by the Foreign Police. 23
