Senior Year Courses Ensure graduation requirements One credit of English usually Strong emphasis on core subjects Utilize parents, teachers, counselor in choosing courses for senior year Planning on honors diploma? Financial Literacy requirement – Completed Junior year during “Focus on Connections event”

A note on graduating early Questions to consider: Have you gotten all that you can out of high school, academically and socially? Are you prepared to enter college, academically and socially? What are your plans for the spring semester? How will you stay engaged in academics and ready for college-level work with a semester off?

Course Registration Timeline February 8-12 :Summer school registration portal open February 22: Homeroom for Registration February 28-March 4: Course request portal open Juniors will enter course requests after the ACT Feb. 28th

Choosing a College HUHS College and Career Fair College visits Wednesday, March 15 in the Field House from 4:30—6:30 pm College visits Recommend begin 2nd semester of junior year College characteristics:

College Admission Basics The stronger the college preparatory courses you complete in HS, the more likely you’ll succeed in college. All UW campuses require a minimum of: 4 English credits 3 Math credits 3 Natural Science credits 3 Social Science credits 4 Elective credits These are minimum requirements and some campuses require more. Check college websites for specific requirements.

Application process for college Best to apply in September through November of your senior year. Complete college applications online: apply.wisconsin.edu www.waicu.org www.witechcolleges.org Double-check college application deadlines (November – May) Letters of recommendation are often not required

Registration Deadlines ACT Test All college-bound students should take the ACT or SAT test in the spring of junior year. Register online at: www.actstudent.org Cost is $42.50 (ACT No Writing) or $56.50 (ACT Plus Writing) Marquette and University of Minnesota require writing test. Must request test scores be sent directly from ACT to colleges ACT fee waiver available for students who qualify, please contact your counselor. Test Date Registration Deadlines February 28, 2017 N/A-In School Testing April 8, 2017 March 3, 2017 June 10, 2017 May 5, 2017

ACT Test Prep Offered by: February 28th ACT HUHS “ACT 36” test prep Classes began last night, but it’s not too late… Mr. Priegel will be available after our student panel discussion to fill out an application of those still interested Still Water Community Church Information to be emailed home later this month February 28th ACT Paid for by the state Test taken during the school day at HUHS Students do not sign up for February ACT, but ALL others need to be signed up for at www.actstudent.org Please make sure to get a great night sleep prior to and come ready to give your best effort.

ASVAB, ACCUPLACER, SAT ASVAB: Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery Good for career exploration Required for military entrance Juniors had the opportunity to take ASVAB back in October Contact your local military recruiting office for more testing times ACCUPLACER: Moraine Park Technical College entrance test. Cost $10 Offered to HUHS juniors on March 21, 2017 ACT score can be used instead of taking ACCUPLACER SAT: www.collegeboard.org to register Cost $43 or $54.50 w/ essay Test dates: May 6 (Register by April 7), June 3 (Register by May 9)

Funding College Financial Aid Financial Aid Night at HUHS during senior year. Can submit FAFSA application after October 1, 2017 Types of financial aid: grants, loans, work-study, scholarships. Scholarships Local, institutional, private scholarships Most scholarships are available during senior year Scholarship database on HUHS Counseling Dept. website

Military Military representatives visit during Resource period once a month: -Air Force -Army -Marines -National Guard -Navy Gunnery Sgt. Berry available after presentation

Apprenticeships An apprenticeship is post-secondary education like a college or university. However, apprentices learn only a portion of their skills in a traditional classroom, usually provided through the Wisconsin Technical College system.  They receive most of their training on- the-job, while working for an employer who pays a good wage. The employment is the primary requirement for an apprenticeship - a job must exist in order for the apprentice to be trained.  Steps: 1. Graduate from High School Maintain grades & GPA 2. Find A Trade That Suits You 3. Know The Entrance Requirements dwd.wisconsin.gov/apprenticeship 4. Start Your Career
