New GCSE 2018 You will be the first year to sit a new GCSE course. Key changes: New grading system. Broad range of topics studied across two years. Linear exams.

New Grading System You will achieve a grade from 9-1. Grade 4/5 are the equivalent of the old C grade. Grade 5 is considered a good pass. http://www.aqa.org.uk/about-us/what-we-do/policy/gcse-and-a-level-changes/structure-of-new-gcses/9-1 Your target in KS3 gives you an indication of the grade you should be working towards at GCSE. Your target may increase if you are consistently working above expectations.

New Grading System Quiz: How many grades are there? Which grade is the highest? Which grades are the equivalent of the old C grade? Which grade is considered a good pass? How do you know which grade you should aim for? http://www.aqa.org.uk/about-us/what-we-do/policy/gcse-and-a-level-changes/structure-of-new-gcses/9-1

Linear Exams You will sit an exam in each of the 4 skills: speaking, writing, reading and listening. Each exam is worth 25% of your final grade. You will sit all four final exams at the end of Year 11 in the Summer Term. GCSE French has a Foundation Tier (grades 1–5) and a Higher Tier (grades 4–9). Students must take all four question papers at the same tier.

Linear Exams You will not complete any coursework therefore all your marks will be gained from your exams. You will not be able to re-sit any of these exams. These exams will test your knowledge on language from any of the topics you have studied over the 2 year course from the 3 main themes. You will not know which topics will be on the exam beforehand.
