Grammar 2 The Second Semester 2015-2016 Adjectives & Adverbs Presented by Dr. Mohamed Sha’at

The objectives of the Session Students are expected to: use adjectives correctly. acquire the form and use of adverbs. differentiate between adjectives and adverbs.

What are adjectives. Adjectives tell us about a noun What are adjectives? Adjectives tell us about a noun. We use adjectives before nouns. - Same is a careful driver. - The heavy rain stopped our ceremony. What are adverbs? Adverbs tell us about a verb. - Sam drove carefully along the narrow road. Adverbs also describe adjectives and other adverbs. - This shirt is reasonably cheap. (adverb + adjective) - I am terribly sorry. ( adverb + adjective) - Marry learns language incredibly quickly. ( adv. + adv.).

Consider the following tips: 1- Adjectives and adverbs do not inflect for number and gender. 2- Some adjectives have the same form as adverbs. 3- Adverbs of frequency come after ‘be’ and ‘auxiliaries’ but before other verbs. 4- Adverbs of time may come at the beginning or the end of a sentence. Good Luck

Polling How can you grade this meeting? A = excellent, B = very good, C = good or D = fair.
