The comparative and the superlative.
comparative We use the comparative form of an adjective to compare two people or things. we add er to an adjective and than after the adjective to make the comparison Example:It,s longer than the red one.
We use more+than to form the comparative of adjectives with two or مقاطع:more syllables Example:The blue jacket is more expensive than the red or the yellow one.
superlative We use the superlative to compare more than two people or things .we use the+est to form the superlative. Example:isnt it the nicest?
We use the most to form the superlative of adjectives with two or more syllables. Example:light blue and red are the two most fashionable spring colours.
Form The comparatives and superlatives are formed in this way For one syllable adjectives we use er/est Great-greater-the greatest Nice-nicer-the nicest For one syllable adjectives with a short vowel followed by a single consonant,we double the final consonant: big –bigger-the biggest
For two syllable adjectives ending with I we change the –y to ier/iest For two syllable adjectives ending with I we change the –y to ier/iest.example:Dirty-dirtier-the dirtiest For other two syllable and longer adjectives,we use more/less and (the)most/least Example:Beautiful-more/less beautiful-the most/least beautiful.
