“CRISIS RESPONSE IN EASTERN UKRAINE: How are Communities and IDPs Coping with Recovery and Integration?” 30 June 2016 SETTING THE SCENE: THE STATE OF RECOVERY AND INTEGRATION OF IDPS. PRESENTATION OF IOM’S RECENT SURVEY RESULTS Ester Ruiz de Azua Emergency and Stabilization Programme Coordinator International Organization for Migration Mission in Ukraine

NATIONAL MONITORING SYSTEM (NMS) (since March 2016) In cooperation with the Ukrainian Center for Social Reforms and with the financial support of the European Union. The objective of the NMS in Ukraine is to support the Government of Ukraine in collecting and analyzing information on socioeconomic characteristics of IDPs and IDP households as well as on challenges that IDPs are facing. The NMS is based on the approaches of IOM Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM), a system designed to regularly capture, process and disseminate information to provide a better understanding of the evolving movements and locations, numbers, vulnerabilities and needs of displaced populations.

Methodology The information support of the NMS is performed by combining data obtained from multiple sources, namely: data from key informant interviews (network of 605 people in 24 oblasts and Kiev city); data of sample survey of IDP and local households (face-to-face interviews); telephone interviews with IDPs based on the database of the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine; focus group discussions; administrative data and other relevant sources. The following slides present results based on: Data of sample survey of IDP households (face-to-face interviews): 2,400 people; The reliability level of the sampling is 95%. Data of sample surveys of local households (face-to-face interviews): 1,200 people; The reliability level of the sampling is 90%. Telephone interviews with IDPs based on the database of the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine: 3,600 people. The reliability level of the sampling is 92%.
