Mrs. Youngquist My husband and I recently celebrated our 34th wedding anniversary! We have a daughter who works and lives in Seattle at Seattle Pacific University.

Nutrition and Food Prep 1 Cook at home Food handlers card Create your own Cookbook w/dividers…binder or online Class Outline Safety Test Cleaning and Organizing Basics in the Kitchen & chef Equipment Recipes Measuring Careers in Food/Nutrition Nutrition and Food Nutrition Basics Research & Presentation in Nutrients and Super foods Healthier food choices Nutrition across the lifespan special diets Meal planning, Shopping & Budgeting Test on Nutrition and Cooking Basics Preparing & Serving Food Fresh Salsa & Knife Skills Baking: pancakes, cookies, biscuits & white bread Cupcakes & Frosting Healthy Baking: making healthier substitutions Appetizers & Snacks Low fat Adding more fruits/vegetables Garnishing Main Dishes Chicken/Ground Meat/ Meatless/Pasta dishes Sanitation Working with raw meat Casseroles Cooking w/o a recipe Egg Dishes and Meringues Pies Final: World of Foods

Materials Needed: 3 ring Binder (Will be your “cookbook”) or we can make our own cookbook or make an online cookbook 3-9 Dividers (homemade or purchased) Class work separate 1st quarter work and 2nd quarter work and Projects (some students like a pocket divider for storage of small pieces) OPTIONAL: Page Protectors (some students like the protective covers for their recipes (you can separate and organize recipes if you desire…i.e. Breakfast, Dinner, Snacks, Dessert) Paper…a few sheets Hair ties…if your hair is long enough to pull back you will need a supply of hair ties! Don’t depend upon me to provide you with hair ties…sometimes I am out! Writing utensil Blue or Black pen or pencil Great Attitude Willingness to work with others Willingness to clean!

Grading Tests and Projects 35% Individual Daily work 20% Daily class work which you will store in your cookbook Cooking Lab Work 35 % Lab planning, cooking, and evaluations Citizenship/Leadership 10% Cooking at home, community service, going above and beyond on projects, and taking a leadership role in class

Classroom Expectations: Classroom Expectations: Show respect to others, yourself, classroom and equipment. Come to class ready to learn Cell phones and other devices are for classwork only. These need to be silent and put away unless given permission from Teacher to complete classwork . Dress appropriately for labs When you are absent you are responsible to find out and make up what you missed Check grades often…at least once a week Be Respectful. Respect the students, classroom, lab equipment, and learning environment Follow safety procedures
