Popular newspapers UK Probably in no other country are there such great differences between the various national daily newspapers — in the type of news they report and the way they report it. On the one hand, there are the "quality" newspapers: The Times, The Independent, The Guardian, the Financial Times and The Daily Telegraph. These concern themselves, as far as possible, with factual reports of major national and international events, with the world of politics and business and with the arts and sport.

The Times Daily newspaper in the UK, one of the world's most famous newspapers. It appears in print in 1785. At the present time "Times" published in the «Times Newspapers Limited» and wholly owned subsidiary of «News Corporation», the head of which is Rupert Murdoch. On Sunday newspaper is a variant of «The Sunday Times». Traditionally it is believed that a newspaper adheres to the moderate right-wing views and support of the Conservative Party, although in the last parliamentary elections, the newspaper openly supported the Labour Party than contributed to their success. Many newspapers have borrowed the name from «The Times», for example, the U.S. «The New York Times», Indian «The Times of India» and others. "Times" was founded by John Walter (born) in 1785 and was then called «The Daily Universal Register» (English "Daily News list"), became an editor himself, Walter. January 1, 1788, after the 940 release, the name was changed to «The Times».

The Daily Telegraph On the heels of the Guardian should be another major British newspaper The Daily Telegraph. Monthly on-line version of its 3.9 million people attended. The daily Telegraph was founded in 1855. Becoming the first newspaper in Britain, cheap, she was initially too radical (and at the same time, the insanely popular). Today, her readers are mainly from the middle and upper classes with conservative views. The Daily Telegraph has a good reputation for their interesting articles on various topics and is considered a quality newspaper in Britain. It is published in London and comes with a circulation of one million copies.

The Guardian The rating agency comScore has conducted research in the field of popular British newspaper websites. According to the results, leading the online version of newspaper Guardian. The tabloids — the most widely read of which are The Daily Mail, The Daily Express, the Daily Mirror, The Sun and The Daily Star — concentrate on more emotive reporting of stories often featuring sex, violence, the Royal Family, film and pop stars, and sport. It's often said that the popular press aims to entertain its readers rather than inform them.

It was one of the first newspapers were printed, and where gossip, news and sports, and women's councils. This is the first newspaper in Britain, published in his crossword puzzle. The Soviet Communist leader and revolutionary Leon Trotsky after his exile from the Soviet Union in 1929 wrote an article in the newspaper. In March 1962, Lord Beaverbrook was attacked in the House of Commons for the fact that "directs vendetta" against the Royal Family in their newspapers. In the same month, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh in one of his most famous moments unwary said about the "Express", "damn, horrible newspaper. It's full of lies, scandal, and fiction. This is - a vicious newspaper. In 2000, the tabloid Express Newspapers was bought by Richard Desmond, publisher of several journals including the Journal of celebrity OK!. Buy provoked a backlash because if Desmond also owned glad pornographic magazines such as Big Ones and Asian Babes, which is why he got the nickname "Dirty Des" (this magazine «Private Eye»). Buy Desmond newspaper led to the resignation of many officers, including then-editor, Rosie Boycott, and columnist Peter Hitchens transition in The Mail on Sunday, refused on moral reasons to work for a newspaper owned by pornography activist.

In late 2008, Express newspapers began to carry out a plan to reduce 80 jobs to reduce costs by £ 2,5 million. Some employees have agreed to quit on their own. In early 2008, due to such reductions has been organized for the first 18 years of a 24-hour strike of workers in the UK press. Twentieth century, published several pro-Nazi articles Lord Rothermere.

The press in the country The tabloid press is much more popular than the quality press. In some countries, newspapers are owned by government or by political parties. This is not the case in Britain. Newspapers here are mostly owned by individuals or by publishing companies, and the editors of the papers are usually allowed considerate freedom of expression. This is not to say that newspapers are without political bias. Papers like The Daily Telegraph, The Daily Express and The Sun, for example, usually reflect Conservative opinions in their comment and reporting, while the Daily Mirror and The Guardian have a more left-wing bias. In addition to the 12 national daily newspapers there are nine national papers which are published on Sundays. Most of the "Sundays" contain more reading matter than daily papers, and several of them also include "colour supplements" — separate colour magazines which contain photographically illustrated feature articles. Reading a Sunday paper, like having a big Sunday lunch, is an important tradition in many British households. Besides, nearly every area in Britain has one or more local newspapers. The British are one of the biggest newspaper-reading nations in the world.
