INTRODUCTION DESCRIPTION: YEL WIND POWER project located in Jhimpir wind Corridor, which has a 50000 megawatt potential with average wind speeds over 7 meter per second , having capacity of 50 Mega Watt containing 20 turbines of 2.5 MW each . MAIN PRINCIPLE A wind turbine captures wind energy and then uses a generator to convert it in to electrical energy which is then supplied to national grid.
INTRODUCTION MAIN CONTRACTORS: DESCON & NORDEX PROJECT START DATE: Project starting date was 14th of February 2015. COD Commercial Operation Date was 16th of September 2016 after RRT(reliability run test) conducted for one week. TOC: Taking over certificate(TOC) date is planned at first week of December. MAXIMUM OUTPUT: 51.2 MW against 50 MW

WIND TURBINE GENERATORS COMPONENTS & ELECTRICITY PRODUCTION The Wind Turbine mainly contains Three Rotar blades connected by hub Nacelle consists of drive train and generator with in it Towers which bear weight of whole upper assembly
WIND TURBINE GENERATORS COMPONENTS & ELECTRICITY PRODUCTION HOW IT WORKS The wind is used to generate mechanical power or electricity. Wind turbines convert the kinetic energy of the wind into mechanical power. This mechanical power is used by a generator to convert it in to electrical energy .Generator creates 0.66 KV of voltage and passes it to convertor (which controls generator frequency) and GSU transformer.
ELECTRICITY COLLECTION SYSTEM GSU (GENERATOR STEP UP) TRANSFORMER The voltage by the each wind turbine generator is stepped up from 660 V to 22 KV by GSU transformer. RMU(RING MAIN UNIT) A Ring Main Unit (RMU) is a gas-insulated compact switchgear unit. It is also used for Power collection of whole wind farm by loop wise. Loop A : WTG 1-5 Loop B : WTG 6-10 Loop C : WTG 11-15 Loop D : WTG 16-20
ELECTRICITY COLLECTION SYSTEM CABLE COLLECTION SYSTEM MV cables , earthing cables and fibre optic cables are brought to substation in cable trenches collectively by loop wise i.e. from loop A, loop B , loop C and loop D .
ELECTRICITY COLLECTION SYSTEM (SUBSTATION) A substation is built to collect all the energy generated by the turbines and received through the MV cables . Substation consists of following elements: Medium voltage system High voltage system Capacitors banks Auxiliary services Control, protection and metering system Communication system Fire protection and intruders protection systems
ELECTRICITY COLLECTION SYSTEM (SUBSTATION) MEDIUM VOLTAGE SYSTEM MV Switchgear connects different electrical nodes i.e connecting the power coming from collection system and transmit it to Power Transformers. It also provides electrical isolation and protection to the plant.
ELECTRICITY COLLECTION SYSTEM (SUBSTATION) HIGH VOLTAGE SYSTEM HV System consists of 132 KV switchgear and metering system . It finally transmit the power to national grid .
ELECTRICITY COLLECTION SYSTEM (SUBSTATION) CAPACITORS BANKS It is used for providing necessary reactive power to plant The demand of this reactive power is mainly originated from inductive load connected to the system.
ELECTRICITY COLLECTION SYSTEM (SUBSTATION) AUXILIARY SERVICES Batteries and EDG generators are used for power backup in case of power failure.
ELECTRICITY COLLECTION SYSTEM (SUBSTATION) CONTROL, PROTECTION AND METERING SYSTEM This system is used for controlling and protection of 132 KV switchgear . For overall controlling SCADA(Supervisory control and data acquisition) is used .
ELECTRICITY COLLECTION SYSTEM (SUBSTATION) COMMUNICATION SYSTEM These are telecom panels responsible for tele protection of lines.
