Goals and Objectives Share knowledge and resources about a software (Kurzweil Education System) that may benefit a variety of students. Provide you with a glimpse and live examples of Kurzweil. Equip you with a tool for your toolbox. Ultimate Goal Moving Forward: Partner with offices under Student Affairs to provide access to Kurzweil and future trainings.

My Role as the Assistive Technology Coordinator Within Disability Resources & Services, I work one-on-one with students registered with our office, providing them access to assistive technology (AT) that they need to either improve or maintain their academic functioning (reading, writing, note-taking). Typically work with students with Learning Disabilities (dyslexia, autism), Visually Impaired. Manage AT Computer Lab & Services (SCB Suite 2116): Fall 2016 Newsletter link Link to Newsletter: http://www.ucdenver.edu/student-services/resources/disability-resources-services/about-office/Documents/Newsletter%20-%20Fall%202016%20Final.pdf

What is Assistive Technology (AT)? AT comes in 2 parts: 1) Technology 2) Service AT is any device, item or software that is used to increase, maintain and/or improve the functional capabilities of persons with disabilities. AT Service: Any service that directly assists a person with a disability in the selection, acquisition, and use of an assistive technology device.  Link ATIA (Assistive Technology Industry Association) Website - https://www.atia.org/ Kurzweil Education 3000 software is not just assistive technology, the functionalities support Universal Design for Learning! Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Universal Design for Learning is a set of principles for curriculum development that give all individuals equal opportunities to learn. From: http://www.udlcenter.org/ The principles take the “term” disability out!! And include all individuals- those with and without disabilities! 3 Main Principles: Learning should offer 1) Multiple Means of Representation 2) Multiple Means of Action & Expression 3) Multiple Ways of Engagement UDL Center Website: http://www.udlcenter.org/
