Practice Activity We will fill out the graphic organizer together as a class. Let’s think about the topic of our cinquain poem. Does anyone have a topic they would like to write about? Have a student come to the board to write the topic on line one.

Practice Activity Think of 2 adjectives that describe line 1. Have 2 students come to the board to write the adjectives on line 2. Think of 3 action verbs that describe line one. The verbs must end in i-n-g. Have 3 students write the verbs on line 3.

Practice Activity Think of 4 words. These words can be feelings or a complete sentence that relate to line 1. Have a student write the words on line 4. Think of a synonym or a word that sums up the topic. Have a student write the word on line 5.

Assessment Activity Now, you are to fill out your own graphic organizer. I will give you a copy of the same one we did in class. You can choose any topic you want to write about.

Stage of Writing: Drafting In the drafting stage, you take your ideas that you put on your graphic organizer during prewriting to form a draft. The draft is to be in the format of a Cinquain Poem. It is important not to worry about spelling or neatness during the drafting stage.
