Contents Page Analysis By Elliot Smith

Layout - Text The text is laid out in an easy to read manner. I chose to do it simply because the main reason for a contents is to find articles within a magazine. I did not want it cluttered up with pictures and unusual fonts, so it didn’t distract the viewer from what the were actually looking for. I made the colour of my writing different and basic. The colours are the same depending on what the intention of the writing is for example all the page numbers are in the same colour. I split my titles up into cover story, featured and regular. This is to help make the contents page easier to read. It also means if somebody saw the cover story the moment they opened the magazine they would see where the article was. I decided to keep all of the writing in the same font because it would only distract the viewer if there were loads of different fonts. I made it clear to see what is a title etc by making the writing bigger or a different colour. I only made the head title a different font because I wanted to keep all of the head titles for every page the same font.

Layout - Colours I chose different colours for each section to continue the theme of making it easy to distinguish what's what and to make it easy to read. I chose very basic colours to make sure the writing was easily readable and to ensure no attention was stolen by very bright colours. I also made sure the colours contrasted against each other so it was easy to see the boundaries of each section. The colours are very strong and secure but at the same time not overwhelming. I have also included the colour purple because that is the colour of the school that the magazine is for. The colours are oddly quite primary school like, even though the magazine is aimed at sixth form. I think that the colours speak school even to sixth formers because it will remind them of their old school days. Finally the colours are slightly transparent to help the reader read the information.

Overall I like the overall feel of my contents page because of the basic colours and fonts. This makes the page feel very straight to the point and how I wanted it. It is easy to see what you want and there isn't too much information so it is not overwhelming. I wanted to put at least one picture in so the contents page wasn’t boring. It is quite small so it doesn’t steal focus. I think it is very easy to find what article you want and where it is because of the colour coordination. Also the feel of the contents page is very school like. It makes you know what the magazine is before you read anything. Finally the
