The Masters of Math Challenge

MASTERS OF MATH The Masters is a Professional Golf tournament played in the first weeks of April every year in Augusta, Georgia. The best players in world are invited and it’s viewed by many as the best golf course and tournament in the world. The Masters of Math combines the spirit of this legendary golf tournament with some of the most challenging Math word problems. Just like the challenging putting greens of Augusta, you’ll have to analyze and think your way through the tough terrain that is the Masters of Math. Answer enough questions correct and putt your golf skills to the test! MASTERS **See printables at end of slide show

MASTERS OF MATH Before we begin lets review some key Golf vocabulary that will help you: Stroke – when a player takes a swing to hit the golf ball Par- the # of strokes per hole it should take a player to sink the ball in the cup Birdie – scored by a player who sinks the ball in the cup one stroke under par for that hole. A birdie is represented as a score of – 1 Hole-in-One – when a player makes the ball in the cup on his first shot Drive- A drive in golf is typically a golfer’s first stroke off a tee, using a larger golf club known as a driver Putt- A putt is typically a golfer’s last stroke before they sink the ball in the cup, using a golf club known as a putter Round – the amount of time it takes to play 18 holes of golf Front 9 – the first 9 holes on a golf course Back 9 – the last 9 holes on a golf course *Golf is one of the few sports where the lower your score, the better your score, players strive to shoot under par which will gave them a negative score, ex: - 3 . **If you’d like to know any other key golf terms not mentioned you can visit: http://www.waggle.com/golf-terms/
