Pueblo Indians Location: natives of the Southwest deserts, particularly New Mexico Had elaborate irrigation system to draw water from rivers to grow corn Lived in adobe houses Dried cubicle shaped mud stacked one on top of the other Usually built under cliffs

Mound Builders Located in the Eastern half of the USA and southern Canada Ohio River Valley Built huge ceremonial and burial mounds Cahokia site of largest and most influential ancient Native American City East St. Louis today Covers 2,200 acres, about 80 mounds today

Located in present day Ohio Called Serpent Mound 5 ft high, 20 feet across and 1,330 feet long

Eastern “Woodland” Indians Located Northern Eastern part USA & Ohio River Valley Lived in logged homes, resided in the forest

Used 3 sister farming Grew corn, beans and squash all together Corn grew in a stalk providing a trellis for beans, beans grew up the stalk, squash broad leaves kept the sun off the ground and thus kept the moisture in the soil
