might you earn? How much… See the Career Diagram at EducationQuest.org for more examples. Discover more careers at MyNextMove.org

HOW WILL YOU GET THERE? Think ABOUT… You’re the last to leave the lunch table and it’s a mess. You’re assigned to work in a group with someone you don’t get along with.

Study Skills… or Find a different place to study each day. TRUTH or LIE Find a different place to study each day. It’s better to study right after school instead of late at night. LIE TRUTH Grades don’t matter in middle school. Do your most difficult homework first. LIE TRUTH

What study and organization habits do you currently have? I get to school and class on time. I use a planner to write down assignments for each class. I ask the teacher questions if I don’t understand. I turn off the phone, TV, and other distractions when I’m studying. I use color folders or binders to organize papers for each subject. What’s something else you do? What habit will you try this week?

INVESTING IN YOURSELF. Think ABOUT… “It will be easier to pay for college if you start learning how to earn, spend, save – and invest money.”

If you make $20 a week and want to buy a $160 phone, how many weeks will it take to earn that money? 8 8 20 160 8 = weeks 2 or months Hint… There are about 4 weeks in a month.

If you make $40 a month babysitting and want to buy a used car for $3,000 when you’re 16, how long will it take? $ 40 per month x 12 months 80 + 400 480 = $ X 4 years = $ 1,920 You’ll probably have to do more than babysit to earn money for the car!

Then act to earn that cash! Create a poster offering a job you can do. Include your name and contact information (for you or a parent) on tear-off tabs. Place the poster in a public place like a grocery store, post office, or barbershop.
