What Areas of Business do Grant Funds Apply to? Marketing & Exports Innovation and R&D Human Resource and Training Business Expansion

CanExport (Canada) Objective of funding program: Encourage global marketing and export opportunities in a market where you have been inactive for at least 24 months Total funding available per company: Up to $100,000, minimum of $10,000 Maximum of 50% of eligible expenses Types of projects the funding covers: Travel costs (for up to 2 employees) Registration/participation fees (booths, seminar fees, shipping/handling costs, etc.) Document translation (e.g. translating marketing documents) Total funding available: Approx. $10M annually

Export Market Access (Ontario) Objective of funding program: Encourage global marketing and export opportunities Total funding available per company: Up to $150,000 $30,000 per trade show Types of projects the funding covers: Exhibiting at international trade shows/fairs/exhibits Development of promotional material Market research Total funding available: Approx. $2M annually

Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP) Objective of funding program: To research, develop and commercialize new technologies To accelerate the adoption and adaptation of these technologies Total funding available per company: Up to $1 Million Types of projects the funding covers: Projects with the objective to grow and generate profits through development and commercialization of innovative, technology-driven new or improved products, services, or processes in Canada Total funding available: $220M annually Canada-wide, approx. $64 million in Ontario

FedDev (Ontario) Objective of funding program: Encouraging a more productive, diversified, and competitive economy in Canadian regions Total funding available per company: Up to $20 Million Either a loan or grant, depending on region Types of projects the funding covers: Enhancing productivity of an industry Market development Technology demonstration and piloting, etc… Total funding available: $210 Million annually

Canada-Ontario Job Grant Objective of funding program: Help employers to obtain valuable skills training for their employees Total funding available per company: 2/3 of training costs, up to $10,000 per employee trained Types of projects the funding covers: Purchase of training courses from a training service provider: For incumbent staff or new/prospective hires Includes business/management/career development training, maintenance and refresher skills, essential skills. Covers tuition, course materials, exam fees, etc. Total funding available: $192M annually in Ontario

Youth Employment Strategy: Career Focus Objective of funding program: Help young people overcome barriers to employment and gain valuable skills and work experience Total funding available per company: $20,000 per hire with up to $300,000 in total per company Types of projects the funding covers: Hiring youth under age 30 for full-time, career-related work experience Must intend to hire 8 or more youth over a 12-month period Total funding available: $330M annually Canada-wide

Considerations & Risk Factors Must apply before you undertake projects, training, hiring, etc… It’s a competition Success rates generally range from 20%-80%, depending on the program Success criteria are job creation and an increase in revenue/growth Companies with over 35 staff can typically qualify for at least one grant per year Strategically, grants should help you reduce risk on your initiatives, otherwise don’t apply just to get a grant
