History of WMU WMU was founded in 1903, where it rapidly became a well known college. In 1957 the name was changed from Western Michigan College to Western Michigan University. WMU specializes in Aviation Engineering and Teaching. The campus sits on 1,200 acres with 151 buildings, some of which are the finest in the Midwest. Undergraduate students at WMU may choose from 140 program offerings while graduate students may select from 67 master’s, one specialist and 29 doctoral programs.

Admission and Enrollment Freshmen Admission to the University is decided on an individual basis. The average WMU freshman has a 3.3 high school GPA and a 22 ACT score. students both above and below these averages are considered for admission. Applications are reviewed using a combination of these key factors: grade point average, ACT / SAT score, number and type of college prep courses, and trend of grades. Transfer students All applicants must have an official college transcript sent from each institution attended. Applicants with at least a 2.00 (C) grade point average (as computed by WMU) in transferable course credits will be considered for admission. If you have earned fewer than 26 semester hours you must also submit either: An official high school transcript, and ACT or SAT scores (if you graduated from high school in the last two years), OR An official GED score. http://www.wmich.edu/admissions/undergraduate/criteria.html
