Analytical Annotations Content Context Structure Language Technique Style Relationships

MY Analytical Annotations 1.2.42 Content – Is the captain going to be ok? He is saying he is weak from his wounds? 1.2.65 Content – So this is where we find out that Macbeth will get the new title – he is taking over as thane?

MY Analytical Annotations 1.2.65 Language – What exactly is a thane? A rank – someone who has land granted by the king 1.2.63-65 Context – I wonder if Shakespeare is basing Duncan off the king that he actually knew?

Let’s Practice Share out our annotations How can we make them better? How can we challenge ourselves with them?

Journal Entries Tips Plan what you are going to write before you do What is the evidence you are going to use in your journal? Center your writing around that. Make sure you have a full paragraph WITH a topic sentence.

Journal Entries - Brainstorm Journal Prompt 8 Things to think about: Caring Principled Knowledgeable Inquirer Reflective Communicator Risk-Taker Balanced Macbeth- Risk-taker? Duncan – leader has to have a lot of the traits Caring Inquirer Communicator Maybe reflective…but not a lot of evidence…

Journal 8 At this point in the play, I think Duncan shows the most LP traits. He shows that he is caring when he wishes the captain a good recovery. He shows he is an inquirer when he asks about the battle. He also shows he is a communicator when he gives orders to his men and they listen. Generally leaders have the LP traits, so I think it will be interesting if Duncan continues to show them.

Today For each statement, find the line that proves it true. The captain is wounded from the battle. Duncan orders that Macbeth be given Cawdor’s title. The king learns the thane of Cawdor has been defeated. Macbeth and Banquo fought with great courage and violence. For each statement, find the line that proves it true. Step 1: Cite the line. Step 2: Write out the quote Step 3: Explain how the quote proves the statement true.

Agenda 2/15 Grammar Practice Review work from yesterday Get started on work for 1.3 End Goal – Understand content so that we can start analyzing the work.
