Literacy Covers communication through reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. We provide opportunities to imagine and recreate experiences through activities (exploring language as they do so). To have access to, and share a wide range of rhymes, stories, poems, songs and non-fiction books.

Phonics We follow the ‘Letters and Sounds’ phonics program. We look at Sounds rather than letter names.

Children need to practise, little and often. Repetition is the key! School Reading Books Children will bring home a reading book which is changed on a Thursday. Begin by looking at books without text, telling own stories from pictures.

Writing Children begin with “wiggles and squiggles”. They begin to ascribe meaning to these marks. Increasingly use phonic knowledge and letter formation in their writing. Write simple “CVC” words as knowledge increases.

Mathematical Development Covers counting, sorting, matching, patterns and estimating. Children work with numbers, shape, space and measures. Children learn through stories, songs, games and imaginative play.

In the Class Children will work in small groups with an adult. They will have the opportunity for teacher and child led activities. We have indoor and outdoor activities. Children will go out in all weathers.

Outdoors All areas of the curriculum are covered outside.

What you can do to help! Together Read Eat Talk Play Bedtime stories, encourage them to help writing lists at home, helping with the shopping, cooking together at home and asking children who has more/ least, shapes of objects, numbers on scales

Home/School Books Every Friday we will send home your child’s home/school book. In it you will discover a little note about something that they have done that week. It would be nice if you could write a couple of sentences about what they have done over the weekend and help them write, draw a picture or include a photograph about something they have done. Please return their book on Monday as we will look forward to reading it and time will be made in school so the children can share their books with the rest of the class.

WOW Bubbles It really helps your child if you share with us what they like to do at home and any achievements they have made e.g. learned to ride their bike, any interests or hobbies they have, comments about how well they look after pets, if they enjoy joining in with family customs and routines. When your child achieves something you think we would like to know about, your child can then bring the speech bubble back to school and stick it on our WOW achievement display. If you need any more speech bubbles please ask Mrs Anderson, Mrs Jones or Mrs Whitehead or leave a note for us in your child’s Home School Book.

Practical Details Please ensure all uniform is labelled with your child’s name, especially hats, scarves and gloves. Children need to have a coat in school, we will go outside whatever the weather. Children have “accidents”. If we change your child could you wash and return the clothes quickly please. School starts at 8.50am and finishes at 3.20pm. Benefits, FSM
