Třeboň, Czech Republic ABOUT US History of algal research in Třeboň has begun when the Laboratory of Experimental Algology was established in the 1960s. Activities have been focused on both fundamental and applied research, especially in the fields of photosynthesis, physiology and biotechnology of microalgae. In the 1990s, new techniques of photosynthesis have been applied to monitor microalgae mass cultures to supplement semi-empirical methods in large-scale outdoor facilities. Our team was one of the pioneers introducing chlorophyll fluorescence techniques in monitoring microalgae mass cultures. Cultures of microalgae (which include prokaryotic cyanobacteria and eukaryotic algae) have been studied in terms of the correlation between photosynthetic activity, growth rate and biomass production. Today, using photobiochemical techniques we are able to characterise various strains of microalgae and optimise their culturing regimes as well as the design and construction of suitable cultivation units (photobioreactors). The cultivation of selected strains of freshwater microalgae is aimed for the biomass production with special respect to valuable or new bioactive substances. YOUR PROFILE Completed PhD programme university degree, fair knowledge of biotechnology, microbiology, biochemistry, publishing and project application experience, good social interac­tion, team work abilities, autonomous approach.
