The Postwar Years – Treaty of Versailles France and Great Britain Wanted to punish Germany Reduced military of Germany significantly Banned conscription Banned production of munitions Reduced borders of Germany France took over profitable coal-rich lands. Allied forces occupy the Rhineland Established an independent Poland Stripped of all overseas colonies Great Britain and France took colonies

Japan, Australia and New Zealand took pacific colonies. Allies demanded that Germany accept blame for causing the war – total blame Pay reparations for Allied war costs and damages.
